ERMAHGERD HALERWEEN

I laugh out loud any time I see an ER MAH GERD meme.... Actually I laughing now just thinking about them
Anyway! Seriously - it's coming up really fast - we have a our annual party next weekend and I haven't really done much to prepare yet..unless pinning counts. I also have not started the kids costumes, so I guess that's what this weekend will be about. Are you dressing up? Or dressing your kids up?

This years we are having a story book/fairy tale theme. It's always exciting to see the costumes people come up with! Here is some of our inspiration.

Kitchen Inspiration > Sinks

Our next big project in our home is dealing with our kitchen sink counter area. We hate it, it's an eyesore, and we are always back and forth about what we want. I think (finger's crossed) we have come to a compromise.

And the winner is.... concrete sink and counter - Clifford gets to make it himself (which is important to him) and I can get the big, deep, farmer style sink I want with out the $1000 + price tag. We don't have a dishwasher or even space for one, so maybe a totally amazing sink will make us fight over who gets to do the dishes...yeah probably not.

Mason Jar Inspiration

Can you believe July is almost over? Summer is flying by!  I'm trying to keep up on blogging, and commenting, but this has been a busy few weeks.  Any big plans left for summer? Or things you are hoping to cram in before the end?

Here is a  little mason jar love :) I'm definitely making the soap dispenser one!

Prom at 30 - Why Not??

It's my 30th birthday in 2 weeks (July 9th to be exact). I typically do a themed party, although the birth of Miss Lily has stopped them from happening the last 2 years, but this year is a big one, so a party shall be had! The theme is prom, purely so I have an excuse to wear a fancy dress and pretend I am 16 not 30!

Harry Potter Party Continued

Here's just a few more things we did for Kate's Harry Potter party (previous posts are here and here)

The craft project we did was something I had made for Kaitlyn for Christmas- Hogwarts notebooks. I designed covers in photoshop and printed them off. We then used dollar store notebooks and pasted on the covers and surrounded it with gold tissue paper, layered on in rough layers. Once the glue was dry, we dry painted on some black paint to make them look old. They got to take them home along with some of our Hogsmeade treats.

my printer was out of ink - hence the oh so lovely hand written signs :)

Harry Potter Sorting Cupcakes

We had Kate's party this weekend - and having 5 11 year old girls over wasn't nearly as hectic as I thought it would be....but I am glad it's over for another year :) How was your weekend? Get up to anything exciting?

My favourite part of the party was the "sorting" cupcakes. I baked the cupcakes and then cut out the centers using my apple corer. I then made icing in the 4 house colours and filled the holes. Once done I decorated the tops with a generic colour so you couldn't see the colour, so when dessert time came the kids were "sorted" into their Hogwart's houses. It was very fun and the kids really enjoyed it, we ended up with 1 Ravenclaw, 1 Gryffindor, 1 Slytherin and 2 Hufflepuffs :)

The first batch of icing filing I did was too runny - so it just absorbed into the cupcakes, that's why it looks like the colour was running - I re-filled  them with store bought icing that was nice and thick and the result was so much better!
