Party Inspiration > Hunger Games

Kate's birthday always kind of sneaks up on me. I think that happens with early in the month birthdays. Last year's Harry Potter party was well received and now I think we have set a precedent and she may be like her mom in her love of theme parties :)

This year we are going with Hunger Games - which is kinda turning out to be a challenge, I can't really let them fight to the death... can I ??  While I rack my brain my first stop as per the norm is pinterest

I'd love to hear any ideas you might have

Abel's Pirate Party: Portholes

I whipped these up before Abe's Party using blue bristol board and dollar store paint! I think painting the little gold rivets really made them look cool. Scott likes them so much he said "Maybe we can just leave them up all the time?"

Wintery Monday!

Last week winter finally hit us! I was in denial, thinking maybe global warming was in full effect and we would have a nice easy winter... not so much apparently.

How were your weekends?  Mine was spent knitting cowls (I have 3 orders!) and attending a tool belt party, where we all wore decorated tool belts (the sparkly craft I eluded to here). It was a fun night of beverages, sing alongs, dancing and a midnight snack food run, that took us by our old high school.

We also have some exciting news!! Kingston Life magazine contacted us and asked us to be featured in the magazine - we even get to have a photo shoot. We are busily planning for it ... and by planning I mean booking a hair appointment..priorities right??

We are also going to have a few layout changes this week, so please bear with us, hopefully it will go smoothly!

A Hogwarts Reunion

Here are a bunch of pictures from this weekend's Harry Potter Halloween Party. Sooo many people came dressed as characters. I was maybe in a little bit of rough shape in the morning, but it was worth it!  Here are some all of the great Harry Potter costumes! Sadly I don't have a good pic of our Hagrid - but you can see him in the group shot.

Harry Potter Craft Tutorial

Getting ready for this Saturday's Harry Potter Halloween party!

Making some Golden Snitch decorations and they are super easy.

Supplies: small styrofoam balls, glitter, glue, toothpics, paper, scissors

1. use glue to cover the styrofoam balls in glitter.
2. cut out 4 matching wings from the paper (2 per wing)
and glue them together sandwiching the toothpick in between
3. make small cuts all along both sides of your wing
4. poke the toothpicks into the styrofoam ball

Voila! I think I'm going to take some fishing line and string them up but they could also be table top decorations. I'm super excited for Saturday!!!!

Prom at 30 - Why Not??

It's my 30th birthday in 2 weeks (July 9th to be exact). I typically do a themed party, although the birth of Miss Lily has stopped them from happening the last 2 years, but this year is a big one, so a party shall be had! The theme is prom, purely so I have an excuse to wear a fancy dress and pretend I am 16 not 30!

Here are some of the things I am looking at for decor inspiration

Harry Potter Sorting Cupcakes

We had Kate's party this weekend - and having 5 11 year old girls over wasn't nearly as hectic as I thought it would be....but I am glad it's over for another year :) How was your weekend? Get up to anything exciting?

My favourite part of the party was the "sorting" cupcakes. I baked the cupcakes and then cut out the centers using my apple corer. I then made icing in the 4 house colours and filled the holes. Once done I decorated the tops with a generic colour so you couldn't see the colour, so when dessert time came the kids were "sorted" into their Hogwart's houses. It was very fun and the kids really enjoyed it, we ended up with 1 Ravenclaw, 1 Gryffindor, 1 Slytherin and 2 Hufflepuffs :)

The first batch of icing filing I did was too runny - so it just absorbed into the cupcakes, that's why it looks like the colour was running - I re-filled  them with store bought icing that was nice and thick and the result was so much better!

Party Prep

Kate's birthday party with friends is this weekend, and it's Harry Potter themed (of course), I have a bunch of things to get ready in the next two days, but here's a peek at the invites we made- I saw a picture online and re-created it in photoshop - Kate is just starting to figure out the benefits of having a graphic designer for a mom... she seemed shocked that I could just make it lol.

I am thinking 5 girls over for a sleepover is going to be a little much, but it's only one night, so I think I can survive...
