Harry Potter Sorting Cupcakes

We had Kate's party this weekend - and having 5 11 year old girls over wasn't nearly as hectic as I thought it would be....but I am glad it's over for another year :) How was your weekend? Get up to anything exciting?

My favourite part of the party was the "sorting" cupcakes. I baked the cupcakes and then cut out the centers using my apple corer. I then made icing in the 4 house colours and filled the holes. Once done I decorated the tops with a generic colour so you couldn't see the colour, so when dessert time came the kids were "sorted" into their Hogwart's houses. It was very fun and the kids really enjoyed it, we ended up with 1 Ravenclaw, 1 Gryffindor, 1 Slytherin and 2 Hufflepuffs :)

The first batch of icing filing I did was too runny - so it just absorbed into the cupcakes, that's why it looks like the colour was running - I re-filled  them with store bought icing that was nice and thick and the result was so much better!

  1. What a cute idea! I think I might need to copy you next time I make cupcakes (especially because this means extra frosting, my favorite part).
